Starting with four hand-me-down cameras and four donated computers, high school teacher Jim Sill and his students built a successful media production business in Central California. Our video series goes inside the classrooms of educators who use technology tools in their lessons every day. Learn from their challenges, celebrate their successes, and share their resources in every episode. Learn about Mr. Sill’s background, see a schedule of his upcoming workshops all around the country, and access some of the resources he uses in his classes.
This page on Mr. Sill’s main website is dedicated to his video production classes at El Diamante High School in Visalia, CA. Sonnet Video Lesson. This project, developed by Mr. Sill for his Intro to Video class, has students create videos around Shakespearean sonnets.
It’s also designed to align with English Language Arts core classroom standards. Past episodes of El Diamante High School’s bi-weekly TV show, produced by Mr. Sill’s students, on YouTube. Student work examples from the Advanced Video class, on YouTube. Mr.

Take a single course, or work towards a credential – all at a pace that’s right for you. Part-time courses are offered evenings and weekends at either the Burnaby or downtown campus. Some courses are available via distance or online learning. If you meet the prerequisites and there’s space available, you can register for a course immediately. Courses are offered in each of three terms: Fall, Winter and Spring/Summer.
To apply to a Part-time Studies program and earn your credential, you simply need to complete a Part-time Program Declaration Request. To be successful in BCIT’s fast paced applied learning environment, it is strongly recommended that students have English proficiency in all four language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Two years of education in English in an English-speaking country and English 12 are strongly recommended for success. For information on English equivalencies, testing and upgrading options, visit: Application processing. Declaring your Part-time Studies program ensures that BCIT is aware of your intent to complete a program as it is currently outlined and also provides you the opportunity to apply for transfer credit.
Upon approval, a program plan letter will be sent to you confirming your program of study. Programs and courses are subject to change without notice.
